EXHIBITION ā
The Modern Design meets Brisbane exhibition was on display in the State Library of Queensland’s Infozone (Brisbane, Australia) between July and October, 2014. Curated by Janina Gosseye and Deborah van der Plaat and designed by Janina Gosseye, it narrated the history of two Brisbane-based companies that played a key role in the introduction of modern design to Brisbane: West’s Furniture and the Craftsman’s Market. Apart from telling the history of these two Brisbane-businesses, the Infozone display also featured several original items that had been sold through these shops. These included Marimekko fabrics and Arabia homewares, which were sold by the Craftsman’s Market and furniture from designers, such as Grant Featherston, Isamu Noguchi, Harry Bertoia and Eero Saarinen, which were all sold through West’s in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.
